A severe storm that hit various regions of France disrupted daily life. According to local sources, the storm—which began in the central parts of the country on August 27—brought winds reaching 142 kilometers per hour and heavy rain as it moved toward the eastern border.
ORANGE ALERT ISSUED IN 44 REGIONS
An orange alert was issued in 44 regions nationwide due to the storm, and various instances of property damage occurred in the capital, Paris, and its surrounding areas.Strong winds caused objects to be blown about, and numerous trees fell onto roads. Vehicles sustained damage, and pieces of roofing that broke off from some buildings fell onto the roads, posing a safety risk.
In some regions, hail the size of tennis balls fell. In many areas, particularly the cities of Besançon, Montbéliard, and Beaune, hail shattered car windows and caused disruptions to transportation. Damage was also reported on the A36 highway, which connects France to Germany and Switzerland, due to the storm and hail.
PASSENGER TRAIN WINDOW SHATTERED
Following the storm, an orange alert remained in effect yesterday in 26 regions. Videos shared on social media showed the moment a passenger train’s window shattered during the severe storm, a person struggling to walk due to the wind, and streets flooded with rising water levels after the storm. Post-storm footage also showed damage to vehicles and trees that had fallen onto roads.
