PSG won its second consecutive UEFA Champions League title on Saturday night, overcoming Arsenal in a tense penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the final at Budapest’s Puskás Arena.
Played in front of a packed crowd of nearly 67,000 spectators, the final delivered high drama from start to finish as Europe’s top club competition crowned its champion.
Arsenal struck first in the sixth minute when Kai Havertz found the back of the net to give the Premier League side an early lead. PSG pushed for an equalizer throughout the match and finally broke through in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty kick.
With neither team able to find a winner during regulation or extra time, the Champions League trophy was ultimately decided from the penalty spot.
PSG opened the shootout strongly, with Gonçalo Ramos and Désiré Doué converting their attempts. Arsenal responded through Viktor Gyökeres, but Eberechi Eze missed the club’s second penalty, giving the French side an early advantage.
The momentum swung again when Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya saved Nuno Mendes’ penalty. Declan Rice then scored to level the shootout at 2-2.
PSG regained control when Achraf Hakimi calmly converted the club’s fourth penalty. Arsenal answered through Gabriel Martinelli, leaving the score tied at 3-3 heading into the final round.
Defender Lucas Beraldo buried PSG’s fifth penalty, placing the pressure on Arsenal. The decisive moment came when Gabriel sent his effort over the crossbar, handing PSG a 4-3 victory in the shootout and securing another European crown.
The triumph marks PSG’s second Champions League title overall and its second in a row, further cementing the club’s place among Europe’s elite. For Arsenal, the defeat was another heartbreaking near miss in the competition, leaving the London club still searching for its first Champions League trophy.
