SpaceX plans $100 billion Starbase in Louisiana

SpaceX has announced plans to build a $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana, with the facility expected to support thousands of launches each year and significantly expand the company's spaceflight operations.
SpaceX is planning to build its fourth and largest launch facility in the United States, with a projected investment of $100 billion in Louisiana.
The company said the facility, which will be known as Starbase, Louisiana, is designed to support thousands of launches each year and play a major role in expanding its Starship programme.
SpaceX expects the project to create around 3,000 direct jobs over the next decade, along with more than 8,000 additional indirect jobs.
The completed site is planned to include five launch complexes, each equipped with two launch pads and a fuel facility. The wider development will also feature a fuel production plant, an energy generation facility, a vehicle processing centre and housing for employees and their families.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with SpaceX targeting the first launch as early as 2029.
The Louisiana facility is expected to become a key part of SpaceX's plans to increase the frequency of Starship missions and make large-scale space operations more routine.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk described the project as the construction of a spaceport that, until now, had existed only in science fiction.
Musk said SpaceX was founded with the goal of creating a future in which humans can travel beyond Earth and explore the stars. He argued that achieving this vision will require space travel to become as routine as air travel. According to Musk, Starbase, Louisiana will help lay the groundwork for that future.
